Bishan Ang Mo Kio Park : A Nature Walk With The Kid

Bishan Ang mo Kio Park

This is not our first visit to the Bishan Ang Mo Kio Park. I have visited there few times with the kid and still we love to spend time among the beautiful scenery around us. Apart from the huge trees around the garden, the river and the lotus pond are the must see attractions. Although there are playgrounds and water play area for children, in our visits we spend most of our time near the river area and lotus pond simply because of our love to nature. It is really beautiful, calm and peaceful.

Our visit to the Bishan Ang Mo Kio Park

As I mentioned Bishan Ang mo Kio Park is a place for us to relax and unwind. Inside the park there are many spots that are truly surrounded by nature’s beauty. Although it is a man-made park, it doesn’t look artificial. It looks natural and you will forget the world outside when you enter there.

This time we spotted roosters and hens at the park which added some natural look into it. Kid loves farm animals when he started watching and singing ‘Old McDonald Had a Farm’ song when he was a toddler. This is why we visited the Animal Resort with him before.Even he was happy to find these rabbits when he was in a Sri Lanka holiday.

Although we spotted birds such as dove, pigeon and orioles too, I was not in a rush to capture them. Instead of that I watched the birds with my son.

He loved this day out which he could happily stroll here and there.

The park consists of river plains, pond garden, butterfly habitat and allotment garden including other features along the 3km length. However the park has two sectors namely east and west. River Plains are at the West where Pond Gardens is at the East. We entered to west side of the park and therefore river plains are our main attractions though we missed pond gardens.

Kalang River flows through the garden from West to east making it a beautiful attraction to the visitors. With lush green in both the banks the river is beautiful by all the means. In one place of the river, there are stepping stones where people can cross the river.

When the water level is low, the stepping stones are exposed. We were lucky to visit on such a day where we could see the stepping stones and crossed the river using the stepping stones.

Although a bit scared at first,he crossed the river! And I was behind him as safety was the first concern. 🙂

It was the best adventure for the kid. He loved crossing the river over stepping stones. The fish in the river was the best view for him.

It was time well spent among nature’s beauty. We observed plants & vegetation too.

After spending time near the river area we proceeded to the other side of the park.Among the views of flora & fauna,we walked towards the Lotus Pond.

Allotment Garden

Located near to the Pond Gardens is the allotment garden. In this garden there are raised gardening plots availabvle.Individuals who love gardening can rent a plot for 3 years. In their own gardening plot, they can grow plants and enjoy gardening during the rented period.

Allotment Garden

We paid a visit to this garden and identified some of the plants. It was not only fun but filled with learning opportunities to the kid.He was happy to find the plants that he knows.

Lotus Pond

Finally we reached the Lotus Pond. This calm and peaceful space of the garden is ideal for relaxing. If you meditate or practice yoga, this area can be ideal. When we reached the Lotus Pond, we were bit tired. However the wind breeze, silence and surrounded nature could make us relaxing forgetting the tiredness.

Cleansing Biotope

Finally, it is time to return home. We returned home through the Cleansing Biotope. It is a series of natural wetland cells which offer effective treatment of river water and pond water. This area consists of plants which has natural water cleansing properties.

We had a plan to play badminton at a designated play area of Bishan Ang Mo Kio Park. However we found some tree pruning activities were going on and we didn’t play.

It was a day well spent. Not only a fun trip for the kid,he enjoyed his time in different activities too.It was an educational tour as well with lot of learning opprtunities.
