Flying a Kite at Desaru Beach on Family Holiday

Flying a kite was a nice experience for us as a family last weekend. We were on a trip to Desaru, Malaysia during the Chinese New Year holidays. We stayed at Lotus Desaru Beach Resort & Spa for 2 nights and there were a lot of activities that we could engage in as a family. Just after the trip with lots of memories, I am not yet ready to write about our itinerary or travel guide to Desaru. Instead, I thought I will start sharing some photos of the beach activities and our resort experience in Desaru in photos. This is our first post sharing our experience on Flying a Kite at Desaru Beach on our day 1. If you like to read all the kids friendly activities in Desaru, check Desaru for Kids post. I shared most activities we did during the holiday.

Our son was the happiest when we spent the whole 3 days at Lotus Desaru Beach Resort playing with him. He is one of the children who was affected in their social experiences due to the pandemic. When he just started primary school in 2020, the pandemic hit with no outdoor playing. Living in an apartment, his most playing was indoors. This was a big concern for me over the few years.

Now, we are free to move compared to the few years during the pandemic. So, I plan trips or outings that help him to engage more with people and to do lots of outdoor activities. This beach experience is part of such a plan.

When we reached Desaru Lotus Resort, it was around 1 pm and we were hungry. Therefore, after check-in, the first thing we wanted was to have our lunch. 🙂 Among the few restaurants at the resort, we chose ‘Teratai Coffe House’ due to the availability of local dishes.

We ordered our lunch including Teh Tarik (Tea). We are tea lovers and we need our tea even on a sunny day. 🙂

The food was delicious and we could satisfy our cravings. After that, we decide to stay some time in our room before going to the beach.

Finally, it was our time to go to the beach! The first activity was to fly a kite. Before that kid received an icecream too. 🙂

Initially, the child was not so sure about how to fly a kite. But, my husband helped him. The Desaru beach was spacious and clean. A good place for flying kites with kids.

The beach was crowded with families on holiday.

It was a good bonding time for Father and son and for the three of us as a family.

At the time we were planning the trip, I couldn’t find detailed blog posts about this resort. Therefore, we packed a kite with us as we planned beach activities at Lotus Desaru Resort. But, there is a retail shop inside the resort premises where we could buy toys, kites, and other stuff to make our stay comfortable.

We had a fun time at the Lotus Desaru Beach Resort and flying a kite was one of the memorable experiences. In the coming weeks, I will share photos of other activities that we engaged in during our stay.

How was your week? Are there new activities that you engaged in? Do you love flying kites? Please share your thoughts.

  1. Flying a kite is always such fun, even as an adult. It looks like your son had a blast with his dad. I know what you mean about kids being isolated starting in 2020, and this is a great way to help your son readjust. And your food looks so delicious. Good thing I just ate my dinner otherwise I would be even more hungry. Happy T day Amilia. hugs-Erika

  2. Children are so resilient, but they also need to interact with others of a similar age. I have friends who stayed in touch through zoom and the internet, but it is good to see your son having fun with his father at the beach. I’m sure that was quality time for both of them.

Your food looks fabulous and it was great you drink hot tea even at the beach. Thanks for sharing your day at the beach, flying a kite, and your meal at the Teratai Coffee House with us for T this Tuesday, dear Amila.

  3. Yes, it must´ve been extra hard on kids with COVID.
Some parents here STILL force masks on their kids, even outside, what nonesense.

    The food looks delicious indeed.

Oh, do I miss the beach and hate the cold, dull days.
I always love watching those kites.

We do have a pirate Ship as kite. It works as lamp!
And the yarn holds our sun-umbrella. That thing once flew up three stories!!!

Looking forward to more from your holiday 🙂

  4. I don’t know that I have ever flown a kite but I certainly enjoyed seeing your adventure. And I agree with you, I drink hot tea on a sunny hot day as well.
    Happy Tea Day,
    Kate

  5. Beautiful photos of the kite flying and that lunch looks amazing!
It must have been so hard for your son and you to be stuck inside so much during the pandemic. We’re lucky that we have a garden and we were also allowed out to walk or run, so we spent lots of time outside, although obviously just as a family – not mixing with others.

  6. Your holiday pictures look fantastic ! Flying a kite is so much fun. I miss the days when my kids were little and we enjoyed good fun outdoor activities together. I look forward to hearing more about your holiday in Desaru
