We are back from our holiday in Sri Lanka. It was a two weeks holiday. We could spend time with our parents, friends, and relatives though it was again packed with some of our tasks including renewing our passports. During our wait for passport issuing, we paid a visit to a nearby supermarket. (Arpico Supercenter @Battaramulla). As I am still not ready for writing about our whole trip, I thought of sharing some of these photos from our holiday. Below are some of my findings at this outlet. 🙂
Arecanut Leaf Plates
Arecanut leaves are with big sheaths. As a child, I have experience and memories of playing with these areca sheaths. But, this time I found reusable plates that are made out of areca sheaths. The label said these arecanut leaf plates can be reused around 10 times and these are microwavable as well. It is a good alternative to plastic and styrofoam disposable plates.
Clay Plates and Clay pots
My next findings are these clay plates. Since I get married, I cook most of my meals in clay pots and pans. Therefore, when I saw these clay plates, I was attracted. But, I still like to eat on a ceramic plate more than a plain clay plate. 🙂
Below are some other eco-friendly products (Pan Watti) that can be used for storing items. These baskets are made of natural materials such as rattan.
Artificial Flowers
Well, among all the above eco-friendly products these artificial flowers could catch my eye. In Singapore, I don’t have many opportunities to pluck fresh flowers for home decor other than buying fresh flowers. Therefore, I use some artificial flowers too to decorate my home. In this Supermarket, I found beautiful flower pots that are good for home decor.
Artificial flowers are a great alternative to fresh flowers. It is less expensive compared to buying fresh flowers. I usually wash such flowers to extend their life span. But, I always love fresh flowers and grown-up plants for home decor.
After spending time inside this Arpico Supercentre, we both had some Sri Lankan short eats (snacks) with Nescafe.
How was your week? Do you have any new findings? Do you like to go green but still use some artificial products as well same as I do? Please share your thoughts as a comment. 🙂

Lovely getting a look around your Supermarket… some pretty things for sure! I have a few leafy green vines on my kitchen cabinets otherwise any plants or flowers in the house are real… Happy T day! Hugs! deb
Those plates look great. I only use china plates here, so don’t need to use paper ones. Your trip t0 Sri Lanka sounds great, do you go home often? Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie
What an interesting post Amila. I love seeing how markets differ In Different places. I wonder how unglazed clay plates are to eat on, but I love ceramics so they caught my eyes also. It sounds like you had a lovely trip and it is always good to see family too. Especially for your son so he knows his roots. Right? I hope you are having a wonderful T day. Hugs Erika
You always have the most interesting posts. I would love to have clay plates. The snack looks wonderful. I haven’t had Nescafe since I was a kid. Thanks for stopping by my blog, and think about joining me with Friday Face OFF.
I was intrigued by those reusable sheath plates. Perfect for picnics and times when you want something unbreakable. Plastic and styrofoam are SO bad for the environment. I was really taken by these. I also enjoyed the clay pots and the rattan baskets. However, some of those flowers looked really high end and would fool even the most discriminate person into thinking they were real.
Nice snacks and nice to see the drink cups are 100% recyclable. Thanks for sharing your trip to the Sri Lanka Supermarket and your snacks and drinks with us for T this Tuesday, dear Amila.
Those artificial flowers look real and are beautiful. What good finds. I have to tell you I love seeing the photo of you and your son at the top of your posts. Love your smile; it just makes me smile back. Happy T Day.
Your photo of the artificial floral arrangements made me smile. My first job was making artificial floral arrangements. I like the idea of those reusable plates. I’ve never seen anything like that. What a good idea. Looking forward to hearing about the rest of your trip. Happy T Day
I’ve never heard of the sheafs used to make the re-usable plates. It sounds interesting.
