Pets play a crucial role in nurturing kindness in children. Through the bond with their pets, kids develop empathy, compassion, and responsibility. The emotional connection formed with pets promotes emotional intelligence and reduces stress, enhancing their ability to respond to others with kindness. In essence, pets act as catalysts for character development, instilling qualities that extend beyond the pet-human relationship, shaping children into more empathetic and considerate individuals. Adding a pet to the family can be an investment in nurturing a future kindness champion.
My son has asked for a pet for a long time. But, due to limited space at home and due to our lifestyle, we don’t have a pet at home in Singapore. But whenever we visit Sri Lanka, our child gets the opportunity to spend time with the pets of his relatives.
I was away from the blog for a few weeks and even didn’t join T Tuesday and other link parties. We had to visit Sri Lanka again due to a family emergency. Though we adults engaged in some urgent family matters, my son had a happy time with other children from the families who gathered in our homes.
I captured few photos of him when he was with pets.
I could see how he was happy when he touched pets. He also engaged in giving food for them.
He also had great time in Sri Lanka though we had some busy few days.
On our way to my parents’ home, we stopped for tea and snacks. Son wanted a coke and it was in a glass bottle. I remember those glass bottles as a child. But, in recent years I only found coke in plastic bottles. On this trip, I found Coke and other soft drinks in glass bottles. It was good for a quick capture. May be companies have understood the importance of reusable glass bottles.
We never forget to taste Sri Lankan black tea whenever we are in Sri Lanka.
Finally, after a one-week trip in Sri Lanka, we are back in Singapore. Once we arrived at Changi Airport, child was happy to have a Mcdonalds’ treat from the outlet at the airport. So, now he is in a mood to go to the school next day.
Do you like pets? I had cats as pets in my childhood and those moments bring me great memories. Please share your experience with pets too.
**Check the link parties that I like to join.
Pets are great for kids, and for everyone really. That is a cute dog, and your son seems to really love him. My husband and I adopted a dog before my daughter was born, and so she grew up with dogs because we’ve had others since then. And cats too. I hope the family emergency resolved itself, and that you had a nice visit. Have a wonderful T day Amila and week ahead too. hugs-Erika
I love pets, but don’t have any now as I am too old. I would hate to think of having to leave them unattended in an emergency. But cats and dogs, and other animals have a good influence on children and grown ups. Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie
We love pets but they require so much care. My son wanted a rabbit forever and we let him have one at the age of 9. He struggled to take care of the rabbit and we eventually had to give it away. Unless a child is very mature and able to handle the responsibility, the responsibility will ultimately fall to someone else.
Happy Tea Day,
Kate
I’ve had cats and dogs in my life all my life. I was raised with dogs. Never had a cat until IL moved out on my own. There are certain pets that don’t take up much room like a beta fish. It would teach responsibilities, even if he couldn’t take it out and cuddle it. And surely a neighbor or friend could care for it when you and your family take trips.
It’s been awhile since I’ve seen coke in glass bottles. I also think recycling the bottles would be cheaper than making new bottles from plastic.
Thanks for sharing your trip to Sri Lanka and your son’s time spent with others’ pets. Nice to see his drinks for T this Tuesday, too, dear Amila.
Aww, a boy and a puppy. Not much cuter than a boy and his cat. I’ve been owned by 5 cats so I’m very partial to them. Happy T Day
I totally agree that pets are good for children for all the reasons that you mentioned. Lovely photos of your kid and the dog. I’m sorry you had to go through a family emergency. I hope it is all sorted out now.
I have never had a pet. My mum never wanted a dog or a cat. And in my married life my then husband bought me a puppy when I was pregnant. I freaked out and we had to give it away. It lasted a few days. (To this day I don’t know why I freaked out.) I actually quite like dogs now, but I’ve never had one. Now I just don’t want the responsability. I do have a cat and three chickens.
Happy T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca
Right now we have society finches, which are the perfect pet for me at this point in my life.
Happy T Tuesday!
So sweet to see your son enjoying time with the pets of your family members. He looks very happy. Also great to see the other pictures too. I always had pets until the last 15 years – my husband is allergic to fur. I have to do like your son now and hang out with the pets of family members.
Happy T-day and hugz
Yes, we love pets. I was a Vet Tech before lupus took over. Nothing like caring for pets. Your son looks very happy with the dog and the cat. I so wish the US would go back to glass bottles. The fruits look amazing in those baskets. So much nicer than here. I hope the emergency is taken care of. Thank you for a very nice post.
I think we’ve always had pets…rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, dogs, cats, budgies, I’ve also had ponies too, at the moment though, I only have this stray cat that seems to like loving in my garden waste bag! your son looks happy with the animals , Happy late T for Tuesday ((LYN))
Lovely to see your son enjoying some time with your family’s pets. It’s very sensible of you not to have a pet when you can’t commit to them.
We have two dogs, one is a puppy so it’s hard work at the moment!
I hope all is well after your family emergency. Have a lovely weekend. 🙂
