Fish Finger Family Fun Activity for Toddlers

Finger family nursery song is a very popular song which also makes it fun for little ones to learn new words and activities. My son watches these songs in YouTube videos and kids Apps, so he is always active with a song in his mind.

Daddy finger, daddy finger where are you?

Here I am. Here I am. How do you do?

Mommy finger, mommy finger where are you?

Here I am. Here I am. How do you do?

That is part of the original song. But instead of Daddy, mommy we found songs with animal characters too. Such as fish finger, monkey finger and so on.

Making fish finger family is really easy and it only takes few minutes.

Take one sticker and attach a straw behind the sticker using a piece of sellotape.

Continue same for the five stickers.

It is done!

Now sing the finger family song showing the daddy fish, mommy fish, brother fish, sister fish and baby fish.

DIY Recycling Bin for Kids + Tzu Chi Recycling Day

Teaching kids about value of recycling is really important. I think we don’t have to wait till kids grow to teach them the value of recycling and caring for our mother nature.

DIY Recycling Bin for kids

After I received a leaflet about Tzu Chi Recycling Day, I decided not to collect recyclable items only by myself; instead I wanted to join my toddler with the cause. As a start we made this DIY Recycling Bin which is a funful and educational activity to do with toddlers or even with grown up kids.

DIY Recycling Bin for Kids

Here is what we did. You can add some more ideas to this DIY Recycling Bin and make it more beautiful.

We used,

  •  A cardboard box (Actually what we used is an empty cake box which is supposed to throw)
  • Crepe paper for decoration
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Sellotape

First we removed the lid of the cardboard box. Then I used sellotape on edges to make the box stronger.

Using the green colour crepe paper we made recycle symbol and we also pasted another purple colour crepe paper on top of the box just to make it beautiful.

Finally, it is done!

We have a beautiful Recycling Bin.

Now we can collect recyclable materials in this box till the next collection date. Last few days I collected few yogurt cups and milk bottles, so we put those into our recycle box.

Remember to wash and clean all items before collecting. After collecting recyclables,it is time to send those to a recycling point in your neighborhood!

Tzu Chi Recycling Day

In Singapore, every second Sunday of each month is Tzu Chi Recycling Day. Few days ago Tzu Chi Volunteers visited our neighborhood including our home to encourage residents to collect recyclable items. I missed joining with the April Tzu Chi Recycling Day, but I am preparing to join with the next Recycling Day together with my toddler.

Hope I will be able to teach him the value of preserving earth from his young age!

DIY New Year Party Hat for Toddlers

Today we spent few hours making some simple items for New Year celebrations. This year my son is 2 years old and he enjoys celebrations. Few months ago we celebrated his 2nd Birthday, although he didn’t have much idea on his simple birthday party on the day we celebrated, he started imaginary playing with birthday parties after few weeks of the party. So, that time I decided to do some activities focusing him for the New Year.

Today, 31st of December, I told him about the New Year. He understands it is something to celebrate and he is ready to welcome the New Year with his soft toys.

This is a simple party hat we both made. Although it is easier to buy party hats, DIY items are always good to engage with a toddler. So, I decided to spend few minutes and to create this New Year Party hat.

We used simple supplies which we found at home.

Things needed:
• cardstock paper
• tape
• stapler
• glue stick
• scissors
• Pen
• Paper punch as required

First we made confetti using colourful strips of paper. You can also use a paper punch to make circles to add to the collection of confetti.
I used an A4 size paper for the party hat.

First I  wrote the greeting ‘Happy New Year’.

Finally cut the edges of the party hat and make it round shape.

It is really simple and easy.
This is a few minute project to make a toddler happy when they are bit bored.

My son decided to use the party hat on his teddy bear. 🙂

DIY Kids Art Display Without Damaging the Walls

I’ve seen many beautiful kids’ artwork display ideas over web. This is one of such ideas and I adapted this method after seen many posts over Pinterest and other blogs.

However this artwork display line needs no brain. It is so simple and easy to create a line and hang the art work.

My son still doesn’t start his play group. But he enjoys some painting activities with me at home. As these drawings and artwork are his first drawings, I like to keep those protected. He will admire these drawings one day!

art work display ideas

Other than displaying his artwork, I also want to train him to keep his drawings organized. Now he knows where to keep his drawings after he finished those.

kids art work display ideas

Here are the items which I used to create this artwork display line.

You Need:

A ribbon
Self-adhesive hooks/ Self-adhesive wall hangers(Command Hooks)
Wooden pegs

kids art work display ideas

Method:

Simply stick the two wall hangers on the wall you want the display line. I used Self-adhesive wall hangers , so I don’t want to damage the wall. Then tie the ribbon and create a line. (Similar to clothes line)
Hang wooden pegs and when there is a finished art, simply hang it using wooden pegs.
A simple and easy artwork display line is ready for kids arts.

Why I like to use Command Hooks?

I always use command hooks,(Self-adhesive hooks/ Self-adhesive wall hangers) to my wall decorations and displays.Simply, these are great hangers to display anything in few minutes. You dont need to have skills to drill the wall.Even you dont need to damage the wall.Simply stick the command hooks on to the wall and you have  a nice wall hanger.

There are also different styles and sizes available. For simple hanging like this kids artwork display,I always use beautiful command hooks. These are not much expensive too.You can also check these similar Command Medium Hooks

Do you use these Command hooks to hang things on the wall?
